For Parents Learning About Twins
Much can be learned on raising a twinless twin and
helping them to confront their grief. Acknowledging their loss and
twinship can validate and give words to their feelings. Keeping their
twin's memory alive or helping them to memorialize their bond, however
short they enjoyed it, is extremely important.
As twins our identities are entwined. We approach life as a "we",
rather than an "I". We came into this world together, never imagining
life without the other.
Some twins have never had to experience life from a solo perspective.
Early loss twins have always faced the world alone. Our sense of self
is integrated with another person’s from as far back as we can
remember, and even before that.
We learn to rely on each other and develop a consideration for our
twin’s wellbeing, which teaches us much about bonds and relationships.
From conception on, we confront the world as one.
"Once a twin, always a twin", in the words of Dr. Raymond Brandt, the founder of TTSGI.
